Black beans are badass! Loaded with high amount of protein and fiber (1 cup has 15 grams of each), the power-packed food pulses have been linked to greater satiety and nutrient intake as well as weight loss. The inexpensive little legumes are also loaded with mood-boosting folate and flavonoids to fend off disease. Beans can be accommodated to a lot of dishes to give you that extra fiber in your diet that you need. A lot of people actually overlook fiber, even though it is crucial to a health nutrient rich diet. Not only do they fill you up faster, they also keep you fuller longer, which in return means you will have less cravings. Prep it (1 to 2 cups dried beans):
First, rinse and sort out the oddballs, add to the slow cooker and top with enough water to cover beans by 2 inches (toss in a ½ onion, salt and bay leaf for flavor), and cook on low for six hours, or until tender yet firm. Store beans in their cooking liquid in the fridge for up to a week or drain and toss with 1 to 2 teaspoons olive oil and salt and pepper.
